Leather Working Group

Set up in 2005, the objectives of this multi-stakeholder group are to develop and maintain protocols that assess the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of leather manufacturers and to promote sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry.  Leather manufacturers are audited against the protocols by a team of highly qualified environmental auditors and all audits undergo a robust, two stage peer review process.

The LWG is made up of member brands, retailers, product manufacturers, leather manufacturers, chemical suppliers and technical experts that work together to maintain the environmental stewardship protocols specifically for the leather manufacturing industry.

The group currently has over 450 tanneries under certification, with over 100 brand members, 80 supplier members and 27 approved trader members and continues to grow.
