Prof Tony Covington

Professor Covington is Emeritus Professor of Leather Science at the University of Northampton, UK.  He has been engaged in the global leather industry for over 40 years, undertaking research and development and teaching, specialising in tanning theory, process development and clean technology.  He is the author of over 300 technical publications, including one book, which have received over 1500 citations in the literature. 

He has supervised 28 doctoral students, examined 25 PhDs in 12 countries and given 60 presentations at conferences around the world, including 7 named and Keynote lectures.  He is a former Visiting Professor at Sichuan Union University in Chengdu, PR China.

Professor Covington is a former President of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (1995-7), who presented him with their Merit Award for Excellence in the Leather Industry in 2009.  In 2011 he received the Alsop Award for Outstanding Scientific Contribution to the Leather Industry from the American Leather Chemists Association.  He is the holder of UK’s highest degree, Doctor of Science.
